Biodegradable

Something is biodegradable if it will naturally break down over time through exposure to bacteria, fungus etc.

Biodegradable cleaning products such as those from Method are better from the Green point of view as they will break down naturally without leaving unpleasant chemicals either in the home or the landfill or the sewer.

Biodegradable packaging will naturally decompose over time, unlike traditional plastics which will remain in their original form for decades and decades. Mind you, we should point out that landfills tend to preserve whatever we dump in them even if it's organic.
