Carbon sink

A carbon sink holds and stores carbon -- in some form -- for indeterminate but very long periods of time.

Natural carbon sinks include the oceans and plants. Vast amounts of carbon dioxide are dissolved in the oceans while rainforests and other plants lock up huge amounts of carbon through photosynthesis.

Carbon capture proposals for power stations also aim to create man-made carbon.
