A fossil fuel is a natural fuel formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms. Examples of fossil fuels are coal, natural gas and oil and in 2006 86% of the world's energy needs was met by these sources. The remaining was made up from renewable energy and nuclear power.
Fossil Fuels are non-renewable. When they are gone, they are gone. The burning of fossil fuels is a significant contributor to global warming as their burning releases greenhouse gases.
