2012 Global Energy Prize is now accepting nominations

Do you fancy winning $1 million? If yes, then get yourself nominated for 2012’s Global Energy Prize, "one of the world’s most respected awards in energy science."

The prize will be awarded in June next year in St. Petersburg, given to the winner by the President of Russia (ooh, I wonder who that will be? The next President gets appointed in March 2012! Exciting, no?)

The award is given for outstanding achievement in the field of energy, covering discoveries, inventions, research and development; all aspects of the energy industry that can lead to more efficient ways of using and saving energy.

So, if you fancy nominating someone, or even yourself, you have from now until February 29. Just think, a million could soon be yours... oh, hang on a mo. Ah yes, I knew there’d be some small print. Here goes: "Candidates can be nominated only by the highest-rated scientists, such as Nobel Prize Laureates for physics or chemistry, past Laureates of the Global Energy Prize, and Laureates of the Kyoto, Max Planck, Wolf and Balzan prizes."

That’s me out then. I thought writing about energy saving for BigGreenSmile might have given me a shot. But if you know a Nobel Prize winner why not have a go? You could get to meet President Medvedev/Putin/Abromovich?
