Former Vice President Al Gore has announced a 24-hour worldwide, live streamed event on behalf of The Climate Reality Project.
It’s all part of a global campaign to highlight the reality of the climate crisis and to encourage the public to do their bit to help solve it.
During the 24 Hours of Reality event, to be held on September 14 and 15, people all around the world will look at the impact of climate change, from extreme weather to man-made pollution, to help us all "join the dots" and see just how these changes affect us and what we can do to stop it.
Scientists, celebrities, business leaders, the public, and Al himself will take part, live, online, in 24 time zones and multiple languages.
Al Gore said: "The climate crisis knows no political boundaries. Ferocious storms and deadly heat waves are occurring with alarming frequency all over the world. We are living with the reality of the climate crisis every day. The only question is, how soon can we act?"
The Climate Reality Project is the new name for the Vice President’s non-profit organisation, the Alliance for Climate Protection, and this new initiative aims to "tell the truth about the climate crisis and reject the misinformation we hear every day".
Maggie L. Fox, president and CEO of the project, said: "Fossil fuel companies and their allies will go to great lengths to deny the fact that climate change is happening now.
"But we have one powerful response: Reality. We will dedicate our resources toward educating and engaging the public about the reality of the climate crisis and helping build the global movement for change."
If you’re reading this, the chances are you are already doing your bit; whether using energy saving and water saving products or buying eco-friendly household cleaners and beauty products.
