Eco-friendly cleaners draw up a 'Dirty List'

by Simon 13. January 2012 12:00

Experts at Method have drawn up ‘The Dirty Ingredient List’ - a list of ingredients used in many cleaning products that fail to meet the company's exacting standards.

Method, which makes eco-friendly cleaning products, says the list is ever changing and growing with one "precautionary principle": "Unless we can conclude that an ingredient is safe for people and the planet, we don’t use it."

And that’s why the list can change; the science of possible risks may or may not be fully established, and just a potential risk is enough for Method to leave well alone.

The list includes such ingredients as parabens, which have been detected in breast cancer tissue and are found in many body and hand washes, and phosphates, used in detergents and capable of polluting rivers and lakes.

The Dirty List can be found at Method’s website, and you can also ask Method any questions about its products or the ingredients used by emailing at [email protected]

Well done Method for drawing up the Dirty List and for continuing to be the "people against dirty."
