Save water, drink wastewater

Americans could soon be recycling wastewater and turning it into drinking water, according to John Vlahakis, founder of eco-friendly household cleaners Earth Friendly Products.

A new report from the Water Science and Technology Board of the National Research Council has concluded that "the reuse of municipal wastewater could safely and significantly increase the nation’s available water resources – potable and non-potable – without intermediate discharge into the natural environment."

We must all do what we can to save water, one of our most precious resources often taken too much for granted, and, in light of the report (conducted over three years by sixteen experts from industry, government and the fields of social sciences and hard sciences) we should all raise a glass of potable recycled water to their conclusions.

John highlights the stigma attached to the idea of drinking recycled wastewater, however, he also points out it is nothing new: "Wastewater is treated and then discharged into oceans, and rivers. That water eventually comes back to us as drinking water." As John states: "The stigma of drinking it, now needs to be set aside."
