Nine out of 10 Americans support solar energy

Almost 90% of Americans think it is important for the United States to develop and use solar energy, according to an annual poll carried out by independent polling firm Kelton Research.

The poll asked "at least 1,000 nationally representative Americans" and was carried out on behalf of SCHOTT Solar and the Solar Energy Industries Association.

The results were consistently high across the political spectrum, with 80% of Republicans being in favour of solar energy, 90% of Independents, and 94% of Democrats.

A total of 82% were also in favour of tax credits and grants for the solar industry.

Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association, said: "It’s clear that solar has the strong support of the American people. Now it needs the support of US policymakers in extending job-creating policies to make sure solar continues to work for America."

If you’re in favour of solar energy here in the UK, now’s the time to consider investing in it before the government announces likely reductions in the feed-in tariff (where you create your own energy and sell any surplus back to the National Grid).

We’ve seen massive rises in energy prices from the "Big Six" energy companies, so why not take control yourself, saving energy as well as money.
