Ford Dagenham Diesel Centre is 100% powered by wind

Ford Dagenham Diesel Centre’s energy needs are being provided by Ecotricity, Britain’s leading renewable energy company - and they've just built a new windmill.

Since 2004 all of Ford’s diesel cars and vans have been fitted with engines built entirely using wind energy from the existing two Ecotricity windmills.

The growth in demand for more fuel-efficient cars and vans has now led Ecotricity to construct a third windmill at the site.

The new windmill will generate nearly five million units of green energy a year, enough for the equivalent of almost 1,500 homes and saving over 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

The three windmills at Ford will now provide the centre with 100% of its energy needs.

Ecotricity has been providing energy saving windmills to many big businesses over the last ten years, including Sainsbury’s, B&Q, and Michelin.

Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity, said: "Together with Ford, Ecotricity pioneered the use of wind to power an entire manufacturing plant.

"We are really pleased to come back and build a third windmill so that the green energy supply keeps pace with the demand from customers for more fuel-efficient, diesel engines."

Ecotricity doesn't just do business. It can provide energy for your home too, promising to price match the ‘Big Six’. And it offers "green gas" too.
