The government has been urged to take more decisive action in order to prevent ecological catastrophe.
According to the CBI, the UK's progress on meeting its climate change targets has been "patchy" so far.
It has therefore called on the government to take some bold decisions, as offering greater certainty would lead to more private investment in areas such as renewable energy.
"Businesses are not going to commit if they think the goal posts are going to get shifted further down the line," said CBI director general Richard Lambert.
It's depressing to read comments like these, particularly as plenty of us do take issues as
energy saving and making sure we have a
green home seriously.
I hope it takes the advice of the CBI, which has recommended measures such as reducing emissions from buildings and promoting
energy saving by offering incentives such as loans for green homes and offices.
At least some of the public are ahead of the game - a recent uSwitch poll showed that issues such as
energy saving are becoming more and more important to people, with 91 per cent taking steps including turning off lights when they are not needed.
