Public want more government action on climate change

People across the world want their government to put ecological concerns further up the agenda, a new poll has found.

Research by WorldPublicOpinion.org found that the majority of people in countries such as the UK, the US, France and China want to see more action taken to tackle climate change.

To be honest, I'm quite surprised to see that environmental matters are a worry to people in China, as this is one of the largest greenhouse gas emitters in the whole world.

But nearly two-thirds of those polled in the country said they want to see tackling climate change become more of a priority.

Meanwhile, the TUC has warned that the UK is lagging behind many other European nations in terms of embracing green technology.

The organisation urged the government to draw on its "world-class" manufacturing base and invest heavily in this area.

Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, commented: "The government can turn the UK into a world leader and create over a million skilled jobs."
