Energy saving light bulbs are becoming increasingly popular across homes in the UK, so it's good to see local authorities are snapping them up too.
Calderdale Council has begun fitting more efficient bulbs in street lamps across some parts of the region, which should last much longer than traditional bulbs.
According to Councillor Amanda Byrne, this forms part of a wider strategy to reduce the authority's carbon emissions by a third by 2020.
Speaking to the Halifax Evening Courier, she said making street lamps more efficient would have multiple benefits, as they currently use up considerable amounts of power.
"It is important we explore all options to help reduce the cost of running them and their environmental impact," she told the Halifax Evening Courier.
Councillor Byrne added that everyone in the region can do their bit to minimise their carbon emissions, such as
water saving, recycling and using low-energy light bulbs.
The European Union recently introduced a ban on the sale of standard light bulbs to encourage consumers to purchase
energy saving alternatives.
