Following Green Britain Day on June 17th, households wanting to adopt more
green home practices have been given guidance by the team behind the one-day celebration of sustainability and eco-friendliness.
Energy saving is a key aspect of this - such as the suggestion to turn off appliances at the wall when not in use, something that could save £800 million per year in electricity bills nationwide.
Simply switching lights off when leaving a room can save £10 per home per year, while eliminating our use of standby modes on electronics goods could save each household 126 kg of CO2 emissions over a 12-month period.
Reducing thermostat temperatures by a single degree is another
energy saving option for green homes, equating to £50 in cost savings and 284 kg of reduced CO2 emissions.
More ambitious households may want to fit a new, A-rated energy-efficient boiler, equivalent to emission savings of 1,259 kg per year for a typical three-bedroom semi-detached home with gas heating, or £230 on annual bills.
