Jamie Oliver's new TV programme (Channel 4, January 29) aims to educate consumers about the welfare of pigs. It coincides with a report in Parliament that concludes two thirds of pigmeat imported into the UK from Europe comes from pigs reared in conditions that would not be allowed here.
What's worse is that the labelling on foodstuffs is so vague, and sometimes so counterintuitive, that it can be impossible to tell the true source of the meat. For example, a pie made in the UK using Danish bacon can be labelled as being British. We want to see the rules changed - at the moment it's very hard for the consumer to find out the truth about their food.
