TV star to promote green homes

A TV presenter has advised people who want to live in a green home to visit eco-friendly properties in the West Country.

Twenty-seven houses in Frome, which contain environmentally-friendly features such as extra insulation and solar panels, will be open to the public for four days in September.

Kevin McCloud, presenter of Channel 4 show Grand Designs, believes these properties could inspire visitors to turn their houses into green homes.

Speaking to the Somerset Standard, he said this would have environmental benefits and save people money at the same time.

"Most homes are likely to leak heat and guzzle energy, adding to the problems of climate change, as well as making a big hole in our wallets," McCloud commented.

This comes shortly after the TV host urged the government to invest in refurbishing existing homes in the UK to make them more eco-friendly.

He said this would be an "ideal" way of helping Britain meet its climate change targets.
