'Pay as you flow' water saving meters hit Norwich

A water-saving revolution is about to hit the homes of Norwich!

Anglian Water will begin installing 1,000 water meters in homes in the Norwich area towards the end of the month. The meters should help customers save money as well as save water.

The meters will be installed free of charge. Householders don’t have to use the meters if they don’t want to; they can still receive unmeasured bills.

If they do switch to the meters, and if they are for any reason unhappy with metered water bills, customers can switch back at any time in the first two years. All free of charge again.

Anglian Water does point out that in areas where meters have already been installed households are, on average, saving £100 a year.

Antony Innes, from Anglian Water, said: “It may seem odd that a water company actually wants people to use less water and charge them less, but we are serious about it.

"We don’t want customers to pay for a drop more than they use. The drought that hit our region and led to the first hosepipe ban in over 20 years was a reminder of just how important it is to use water efficiently.

"Using a water meter is a simple and very effective way of reducing the amount households use each day.”
