Save water to avoid hosepipe bans this summer

There's unlikely to be a hosepipe ban this summer, despite the dry, hot spring, Water UK has announced.

However that doesn't mean we should be spraying water around like there's no tomorrow. Consumers are being encouraged to use water as wisely as they can to reduce wastage.

Water saving measures that can be used in gardens and on lawns include using rainwater butts and watering cans instead of water-intensive hosepipes and sprinklers. A Ripple water bucket is ideal for collecting waste water from within the home to then use for watering your garden.

Water UK, which represents water companies across the country, says reservoir levels have been noted as being lower than is expected for the time of year.

However the water companies have carried out scenarios for "dry years" to ensure that levels of service can be met under drought conditions.
