Sodium lauryl sulphate

Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) is a common detergent chemical found in shampoos, toothpastes, body washes, used for its ability to form a lather and for its thickening effect. It has a long history of safe use, although questions have been raised over its medical safety. However, there is insufficient evidence to support this. There are many SLS-free natural or organic products on the market, but products containing SLS continue to be used by many consumers.
