Propolis is a sticky natural substance at anything above room temperature, below which it is brittle. Propolis comes from botantical sources such as tree sap and is collected by honey bees to fill gaps in the hive. Large gaps are filled with bees wax, the smaller gaps with Propolis thus making Propolis a key part of the hive both in its structure and minimising vibration as well as by sealing the gaps stopping parasite entering the hive.
An old beekeepers tale is that propolis kept in the mouth can keep away sore throats! We're not sure about this but there is some research to suggest that Propolis may help to guard against oral diseases.
The word Propolis is from the Greek "to protect the town" and is commonly used when treating acne , cuts and grazes as well as in dental care products.
