Vitamin A Derived from many natural sources such as mango, nectarine and soybean, vitamin A appears to play a role in maintaining normal skin health. An antioxidant, it helps to stimulate cell regeneration and improve texture and firmness, and to maintain a supple complexion and prevent signs of ageing such as dryness and wrinkles. It also improves the appearance of problem-prone skin. Vitamin A works well in combination with vitamin E.
Vitamin B The B vitamins are eight water-soluble vitamins that play an important role in healthy cell metabolism. Combinations of all eight are known as vitamin B complex. Used in skincare products, B vitamins aid cell formation, protect skin cells against damage from toxins, and aid healing and circulation. They are derived from green vegetables, wheat, yeast nuts and other foods.
Vitamin C Vitamin C is considered one of the most effective natural antioxidants - substances that protect again free radicals that attack healthy cells and cause ageing. Presence of vitamin C in skincare therefore promotes skin suppleness and elasticity. Commonly found in citrus fruit, vitamin C is also an effective astringent and toner for the skin.
Vitamin D Vitamin D is produced in the skin by exposure to UV rays in sunshine, but people with limited sun exposure must add vitamin D to their diet from food sources. Its benefits are promotion of good bone health and healthy organ function, but it can also aid the healthy appearance of the skin.
Vitamin E Vitamin E is another powerful antioxidant that prevents damage and ageing to the skin by guarding against free radicals that cause cells to break down. Derived from sources such as wheatgerm, olive oil and vegetable oils, it helps the skin to lock in moisture, protecting sensitive skin and improving the appearance of dryness and roughness. It also protects hair from the sun and pollution. Vitamin E has a healing and soothing action that makes it a great all-round ingredient to moisturiser. It is often used in conjunction with vitamin A.
