Banned Ingredients

Bored of scrutinising ingredients lists? With Big Green Smile, you don’t have to. We’ve banned over 130 ingredients, and every new product is checked against our list before we add it to the shop.

We ban ingredients for a number of reasons. In most cases, it’s because they’re harmful to the environment or have been linked to health issues. Oxybenzone, for example, is a common sunscreen ingredient, but it can kill coral and other marine life, which earns it a place on our banned list.

Of course, there’s more to sustainability than just banning ingredients. We have a robust Supplier Code of Conduct in place, which covers everything from child labour to pollution. We don’t allow animal testing. And we’ve joined the fight against single-use plastic. It’s all part of our mission to make sustainable shopping the norm.
