Lake Windermere is being damaged by phosphates from detergents, according to the "Love Your Lakes" campaign. 

The campaign, run by Nurture Lakeland, aims to improve the water quality in Lake Windermere by working with residents, businesses and visitors and encouraging them to care for their environment.

As the group states on its website: "The Lake District and Cumbria have some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. However our environment is surprisingly fragile. Every now and again our beautiful landscapes need a little help from their friends."

The same philosophy applies to all of our lakes and waterways and we can all help by making sure our cleaning products are free from phosphates and other environmentally damaging chemicals.
