Jake Tyler, a Loughborough University student, has designed an eco-friendly vacuum cleaner made out of cardboard and other recycled and recyclable materials for his final year degree project.
And now Vax, manufacturers of vacuum cleaners in the UK and sponsors of Jake’s project, are considering a limited production run of the cleaner.
The Vax ev comes in a cardboard box. But don’t throw the box away! You’ve guessed it - the box is part of the cleaner!
Pop the corrugated cardboard panels into place and suddenly your box, like a crazy recyclable floor-cleaning Transformer, becomes Vax ev, ready to tackle the deepest of pile.
The panels are covered in a flame retardant coating and are also fully customisable - just add felt tip pens.
And should you ever need to replace the panels (or just give the kids a chance to redesign) they're easily replaceable and cheap too.
Paul Bagwell, director of new product design at Vax, said: "With sustainability becoming an increasing concern for manufacturers, the Vax ev shows just what can be achieved when young designers are encouraged to think creatively and push the boundaries of product design.
"It’s so important that manufacturers such as ourselves support young British designers like Jake, as they are the key to this country’s future success."
So look out for the cardboard cleaner. And if you team it up with BigGreenSmile’s array of eco-friendly cleaning products, including floor cleaning products, you’ll soon be on your way to a completely green and clean home.
