'Moog Mountain' to be made out of old clothes

If you’re off to Moogfest this year why not take along all your old clothes - after washing them with one of our lovely green laundry products first of course - and add them to the "Moog Mountain"?

Ok, here’s why not. Moogfest is a long way away. It’s in North Carolina. But other than that little hiccup, the Moog Mountain at Moogfest, the annual three-day event in honour of musical inventor Robert Moog, and this year starring Brian Eno, Moby, and the Flaming Lips, is a great way to recycle your old clothes which will then be given to local charities.

Moogfest has a bit of a thing going on this year for recycled clothes. In addition to the Moog Mountain the festival’s official clothing provider is SustainU, an American clothing company making high quality apparel using 100% recycled fabrics.

SustainU’s CEO, Chris Yura, said: "It is estimated that the average American throws away 68 pounds of clothing each year, and that accounts for about 10% of all waste in our landfills.

"The great thing about textiles is that almost all of it can be reused somewhere and many of the organisations that collect clothing use donations to also support job training programs."

One way to make sure your clothes don’t end up in landfill is to take good care of them so that they’ll last that bit longer.

Here at BigGreenSmile we have everything you need to keep your clothes clean and fresh the natural way with eco-friendly laundry products from Ecover, Bio-D, Earth Friendly Products and Method.

And when you really have to give up on your favourite jumper head to Moogfest... or, if that’s too much of a trek, your local charity shop.
