Children are being rewarded for their green efforts by Ecover, which is giving £6,000 over three years to the lucky winner of the Ecover Ethical Kids award.
Nominees this year included Green Gateways Business Club, run by pupils in Yorkshire who have set up green business breakfasts at their school.
Another was Savvy B.O.B. Box - year 8 pupils from Merseyside, working alongside Duke of Edinburgh Award students, have been making and selling unique bat boxes and bird boxes to the local community.
Turners Hill Primary School was also nominated for pioneering a continuing school eco project to encourage environmental awareness from an early age.
Last year’s winners, The Recyclists, are continuing their pioneering work to make recycling easy and accessible for their local community.
Mick Bremans, Ecover’s managing director said: "Children are our future and it’s their enthusiasm and creativity at grassroots level which is so inspiring".
And so who won this year? The award, presented at the 2011 Observer Ethical Awards, a star-studded evening last Thursday at the Victoria & Albert Museum, was Savvy B.O.B. Box for their fantastic bat and bird boxes. Congratulations and thank you. From the bats too!
