Plenty of water helps holidaymakers enjoy a ‘clean weekend' in Blackpool

Water saving may not have been a priority this Easter in Blackpool - there was a 20% increase in demand for water over the holiday weekend.

The Las Vegas of the North West of England can fortunately rely on the Lake District, the Trough of Bowland and even underground wells in the Fylde (as Vegas has Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam).

The gorgeous weather is partly to blame for an early peak in water usage, which is monitored 365 days a year by United Utilities.

In Blackpool alone 100 million litres a day were used. As John Butcher, United Utilities regional water supplies manager, joked: "Visitors were certainly having good clean fun rather than a dirty weekend!"

John went on to say: "It has been a dry March and April, but our reservoirs are still in good shape following a wet start to the year and we’re not envisaging any restrictions.

"Even so, it makes good environmental sense to use water wisely, whatever the weather. The less water we all use, the more we can leave in the region’s lakes and rivers for fish and wildlife."

You can get a free water savers' pack by logging onto the United Utilities website, and don’t forget to check out the great water saving products here at BigGreenSmile.
