Vote now for your ‘Best Green International Celebrity’

Who would be your favourite green international celebrity? Now's your chance to have a say in the International Green Awards.

The global programme that recognises inspiring, innovative and creative approaches to sustainability has introduced a new category for its sixth award ceremony.

And, unlike the numerous other categories where the boffins get to vote, it’s up to us, the public, to decide.

The list of 15 nominees include Sir Paul McCartney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sting, Don Cheadle, and supermodels Helena Christensen and Gisele Bündchen. There are only a few days left to vote so get along to www.greenawards.com and vote now.

Here’s a thing; I voted Don. It was him or Macca, but in the end I felt sorry for Don after Gisele got there first in World Environment Day’s great tree-off! And he deserves something for giving us the worst Cockney accent ever in the "Ocean’s 11,12, and 13" films. But don’t let me influence you. Sting may be your green thing.

The judges for the rest of the categories include such bigwigs as Arianna Huffington, Baroness Barbara Young, David de Rothschild and Sir Crispin Tickell. There are 20 categories to judge including Best Green Energy Efficiency Initiative Award, Best Green New Product Innovation, Best Green Water Stewardship Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was won in 2010 by Sir David Attenborough CBE who said: "Biodiversity is the core of the sustenance of life; which currently hangs in delicate balance. By recognising creativity in sustainability the International Green Awards are a genuine effort to promote positive attitudes towards biodiversity and sustainability."

Well said. And should Don win the celebrity award I’ll look forward to a speech as equally profound. With a few apples and pears thrown in.
