Hamburg, Europe’s Green Capital 2011, is to host a plethora of environmentally friendly, energy saving events to celebrate its new status.

Throughout the year conferences, trade fairs and showcase exhibitions open to the public will highlight how Hamburg won its title and how other cities and countries can follow suit.

First up is the ‘goodgoods’ trade fair from May 27 to 29, showcasing ‘good’ products and services from the fields of living, fashion, technology, mobility, nutrition and health.

Green technologies will be highlighted at H2Expo (June 8 and 9), and in September the focus will be on the solar PV industry - the EU PVSEC will see the largest international gathering of solar energy academics and industry professionals.

If you’re lucky enough to be visiting Hamburg in the last week of September make sure you get along to the Hamburg Climate Week. An interactive theme-park in the city centre will be devoted to topics relating to climate change.

Hamburg’s year as Green Capital of Europe will draw to a close with the Intelligent Cities Expo (November 8 to 10) where politicians, urban planners, energy suppliers and experts from the field of transport, finance and communication will meet to discuss energy efficiency, resource protection and sustainability.

It’s a packed year for the Green Capital of Europe with something to appeal to all of us interested in our shared green future. We wish Hamburg all the best.
