Ofgem, the energy watchdog, is calling on energy suppliers to deliver reforms, including simpler tariffs, as quickly as possible.
Ofgem claims that there is growing recognition amongst suppliers that the problems it recently highlighted need to be tackled as soon as possible.
Of course, this need to "tackle problems" could be due to an increasingly irate number of customers infuriated by complicated tariffs, bad service, and astronomical price hikes too. Oh, and an unprecedented amount of negative press. But, better late than never.
Ofgem has published its proposals for simpler tariffs, and some of the ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers have already reacted; British Gas for one stating that they will write to all customers to highlight its new tariff structure.
For some energy companies outside of the Big Six, simple and clearly understood tariffs have been around a while. So why not shop around a bit?
There are plenty of companies offering not only easy to understand energy deals, but also competitively priced green deals, reinvesting in renewable and clean energy. So go ahead, shop around, save energy, save money, and even save the planet.
