Schools may stop teaching climate change to children

Children may no longer be taught about climate change in schools, it has been revealed.

Tim Oates, the chap in charge of overhauling the school syllabus in England, says climate change should not be included in the national curriculum.

He says it should be up to individual schools to decide whether to teach children about climate change.

Oates told the Guardian that he wanted to get “back to the science in science”.

“We have believed that we need to keep the national curriculum up to date with topical issues, but oxidation and gravity don’t date,” he said.

“We are not taking it back 100 years; we are taking it back to the core stuff. The curriculum has become narrowly instrumentalist.”

The announcement has prompted an outcry from some green campaigners.

What do you think? Should children be taught about climate change and other environmental issues?

Isn’t it important for children to be able to make choices about the products they buy, with some knowledge of the impact their actions will have on the planet?
