In a recent article in The Times, Mark Henderson says the recent heavy snowfalls in Britain do not weaken the argument for global warming.
"It is easy to scoff at prophesies of carbon-induced doom when drifts are piling up in our driveways, but nothing about this cold snap is incompatible with wider trends in the Earth's climate," he says. "If anything, it should reinforce our confidence that the world in general, and our corner of it in particular, are getting appreciably warmer."
"The notion that the great freeze might somehow refute global warming is founded on a confusion of climate and weather. The first term describes the prevailing meteorological conditions of a geographical region over a long period of time.
