Energy-saving measures put in place by Panasonic have been welcomed by an environmental group.
The technology giant announced earlier this month that it plans to reduce its carbon footprint by slashing emissions by 50 per cent over the next eight years, based on the benchmark set in 2006.
If it achieves its goal, the company will prevent 120 million tonnes of carbon entering the earth's atmosphere every year.
Responding to the news, a spokesman from therenewableenergycentre.co.uk applauded Panasonic and described it as a very positive step forwards.
The firm's energy-saving initiatives will not just cut harmful emissions, but could also signal a move towards a greener way of leading domestic life, the source said.
"It is clear [Panasonic is] committed to both renewable energy and
energy saving and
the promotion of greener products across the retail market," they commented.
The spokesman went on to express hope that purchasing more efficient household products could become an essential trend for consumers.
