Energy saving window scheme 'will reduce emissions'

Energy saving window scheme Significant energy saving results would be seen if the government adopts a new window scrappage scheme, an expert has said.

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), which accounts for more than 60 per cent of the industry's turnover, was behind the proposed plans which would be similar to the current car scrapping programme.

Nigel Rees, the organisation's chief executive, explained that giving householders an incentive to use energy efficient windows (EEW) would "have a huge role to play" in cutting fuel bills and reducing emissions.

"EEWs can reduce emissions by ten per cent from dwellings nationally and reduce national domestic energy expenditure by ten per cent," he commented.

Figures from the Energy Saving Trust show that double glazing can reduce household carbon emissions by 680 kg a year.

It comes after the Carbon Trust announced that a number of big name companies, including Britvic and Tesco, have signed up to its Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator programme.

The project seeks to reduce business costs and make the UK's manufacturing industry more competitive.ADNFCR-2539-ID-19441884-ADNFCR
