The feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme is an ideal opportunity for residents of Norfolk to take
energy saving steps and potentially benefit financially, says Norfolk County Council.
While the amounts paid out under the initiative vary depending on the kind of renewable energy technology used, the rate of return should be no less than five per cent.
Payments are made by energy suppliers to customers who install technology such as photovoltaic solar panels, anaerobic digestion and wind turbines.
Cabinet member for sustainable development Ann Steward says: "I would encourage anybody thinking of switching to green energy to seek professional and independent advice so they can make an informed decision before parting with any money."
In this way, she adds, households can ensure that their energy saving efforts reap the greatest possible reward from the FIT programme.
The Energy Saving Trust notes that extra money can be made by selling any surplus, unused power back to the national grid.
