Worried by the reports this morning that Ofgem is predicting rises of up to 60% in our annual energy bills? Well, at least one organisation thinks they were too optimistic and that it will actually be much worse than that.
Speaking on BBC News, Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch said that their projections, based upon the necessary investment required in energy infrastructure and projecting forward wholesale energy prices five years, indicated to them that we could be receiving annual energy bills of £4,000.
uSwitch is one of those companies that advises consumers on the best deals for electricity, gas, mobile phone etc, and takes a commission to do so, so of course they have a vested interest in getting people concerned about energy prices. But that's still a really scary figure for anyone to predict.
Ann Robinson went on to say -- and we definitely agree -- that everyone who hasn't already should seriously consider insulating their loft and upgrading their old, inefficient boiler to a modern A-rated energy-efficient model. She said that could easily bring savings of 25%.
