Boys in blue go green

The mayor of London has commended police in north London for their efforts to help the environment.

A police station in Wembley is now using eco products including energy-efficient light bulbs and more economical boilers to reduce its carbon footprint.

The move has been hailed by Boris Johnson, who said that similar measures are to be implemented in other public buildings across Greater London.

This, he stated, should help the city to tackle climate change and reduce annual fuel bills by about £1 million.

"With the start of this fantastic eco-makeover at Wembley police station, we are truly seeing London's boys in blue, go green," Mr Johnson said.

It's good to see our institutions taking a lead on issues such as the environment, including the emergency services.

We can support them in their efforts by following suit and making sure our homes are also well stocked with green products.

After all, lots of household items made from sustainable sources are now available, and many have been specifically designed to help us save energy, such as the Eco Kettle and energy-efficient light bulbs.
