Lily Cole backs Fairtrade products

Supermodel Lily Cole has announced she’s backing eco-friendly and ethical natural beauty.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Lily, who’s been on the cover of Vogue AND has a double First from Cambridge, wants to “save the environment from the excesses of the fashion and beauty industry”.

She’s just become The Body Shop’s brand ambassador and is a big advocate of Fairtrade.

Lily has just visited Ghana to find out about where the ingredients for cocoa butter moisturiser come from.

“I am concerned that when you buy something you are not knowingly or unknowingly causing someone else's suffering in the world,” she told the Telegraph.

She says she really wants to get into the Fairtrade movement and was reduced to tears on the tube by a report on cotton farming sent to her by the Environmental Justice Foundation, which she now represents.

Lily is also opposed to animal testing for beauty products. “I really feel it is immoral to test products on animals,” she told the Telegraph.

“Drugs testing is much more ambiguous because it is human life etc but beauty is - at the end of the day - so superficial compared with the lives of the defenceless beings you are treating in that way.”
