Natural skin care brand
Burt's Bees has enhanced its own
water saving efforts with a reclamation system to recycle the precious commodity on-site.
At its manufacturing plant, grey water - such as run-off from sinks - is to be used in the boiler, chiller and cleaning processes undertaken at the facility.
"It's important that we take stock of our progress not only toward developing the most natural possible products, but also toward minimising our impact on the environment," says chief executive officer John Replogle.
The new water saving endeavour is expected to allow 750,000 gallons per year to be saved from the company's total use of the liquid.
Other efforts undertaken include the elimination of shrink wrap from the brand's lip balm packaging and the installation of energy-efficient lighting.
In June, Burt's Bees revealed that it had been named as the number one green brand in US consumers' perceptions, as rated by the ImagePower Green Brands Survey.
