It can be difficult for consumers to identify which natural skincare products are truly organic, according to the New Straits Times.
Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan, a correspondent at the news provider, explained that some shoppers can be confused by the number of different brands and methods of certification which exist in the marketplace.
Ecocert, the US Department of Agriculture and Australian Certified Organic all test the standards of
natural beauty products, she noted, but the methods they use can vary.
However, Swiss
natural beauty products company
Weleda sets its own standards for cultivation and production of ingredients along with a group of other European brands, she added.
Claudia Karle,
Weleda's export marketing manager, said the move "is to make sure that the brands fulfil requirements for natural and organic products".
She added: "We test our products with independent bodies to make sure we keep to the high standards which we set for ourselves."
Her comments come after natural
cleaning products company
Ecover told AFP that some brands are not as eco-friendly as they claim to be.
