United Utilities is continuing to ask for households in the north-west to intensify their
water saving activities as reservoir levels remain low in the region.
Paul Parr, water efficiency manager at the utilities provider, suggests simple water saving measures such as switching off the tap while brushing your teeth.
This can save up to 18 litres - or enough for a washload - he adds.
On the subject of washing, he also asks that householders only use their washing machine or dishwasher for a full load, to maximise water efficiency.
"Despite the recent rain, reservoir levels across the region are still too low," he says.
"We share our water supplies with the environment so every little bit people can do to save water will help."
His comments follow heavy rains across the north-west which saw flash flooding in some parts of Liverpool.
Some Lake District reservoirs remain 42 per cent below full, however, leading for United Utilities to advise its customers that more heavy rain will be needed if they are to fully recover.
