Leakage down as companies 'save water'

The UK water industry has met or bettered leakage targets in the last year, Ofwat announced at Water UK’s recent Leakage Conference.

Water UK works on behalf of the water industry to help create a sustainable future. Its conference attracts around 140 leakage professionals and is considered the "leading leakage conference for the industry.” This makes me wonder how many other leakage conferences there could be.

The conference reported that leakage is now down by one third since its worst point.

Water UK said: "With more than 17 billion litres of water going down hundreds of thousands of kilometres of pipes and through millions of joints, valves and pumps each and every day, consumers can trust in the fact that the cost to make the system completely watertight would be simply unaffordable for their water bills."

Hmmm. Our water bills hardly come cheap, and it’s not as if the water companies are short of a bob or two. Water UK went on to say: “The water companies get invaluable support from communities and individuals in their efforts to save water, and companies work to build upon that trust by ensuring they do their bit."
