Scottish Water says 'be prepared' for winter

Scottish Water is encouraging customers to be protected and prepared for the coming winter.

The company has launched a campaign aimed at businesses and homeowners urging them to protect pipes and to heat and insulate homes and properties “ensuring peace of mind ahead of extreme weather conditions.”

STV’s weather forecaster, Sean Batty, is supporting the winter campaign. He said: "Last year many Scots were preparing for another cold winter after the extreme conditions of the previous two, however, in the end it turned out to be a much milder but stormy one.

"This highlights just how volatile our weather can be and how we need to be prepared in advance for whatever it throws in our direction and to ensure that we heat, insulate and protect our homes and businesses against the ever-changing elements."

Being prepared is good advice for all, whether in Scotland or south of the border. Frozen and burst pipes can cause otherwise preventable damage around the home.

Make sure you know where your stop valve is ahead of any cold weather; simply turning that off will save untold damage as well as saving water. And ensuring your pipes and your home is well insulated can help save energy too, saving you money in the process.
